Museo Pedro de Osma, Lima, Peru
The title of this exhibition derives from The Last Inca Princess, a multidisciplinary film created by contemporary Peruvian artist Ana de Orbegoso. The movie unites choreography, music, acting, and multimedia scenography to create a historical fresco intended to open a critical reflection on the present time and our relationship with the past. Orbegoso proposes to explore the key moment where the two worlds, Incan and European, collide, giving birth to the mestizo world, no longer totally European, nor totally indigenous. Along with this film, the exhibition showcases original film costumes presented in the center of an adjacent gallery filled with colonial furniture. The exhibition also includes interventions by the artist across the museum, including inside vitrines featuring colonial objects from the permanent collection, and outside the museum, with temporary projections featuring Incan temples, projected onto the walls of the colonial museum.
Curated by Patrice Giasson, The Last Inca Princess: A Multidisciplinary exhibition by Ana de Orbegoso was presented at Museo Pedro de Osma, Lima, Peru, July 22–August 28, 2016.
