Patrice Giasson is a curator who specializes in modern and contemporary art. With a background in art history and comparative literature, and a focus on Latin American art and literature, he has also explored Pre-Colombian art and ancient writing systems. Giasson studied in Quebec, in Mexico (where he lived for five years), and in France, where from 2005 to 2007 he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre de Recherches sur les Arts et le Langage at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS-PARIS). He has resided in the United States since 2009, holding the position of the Alex Gordon Curator of Art of the Americas at the Neuberger Museum of Art, and teaching in the Department of Art History at SUNY Purchase College.

Giasson has explored such themes as the place of history and mythology in modern society, the impact of globalization on local contexts, the art and literature of the Mexican revolution, and the function of humor in modern and contemporary art and literature. He has worked with renowned artists including Leandro Erlich, Ignacio Iturria, Alfredo Jaar, Alex Katz, and Teresa Margolles. In recent years, he has focused on artists from the Americas who have escaped the attention of significant historical discourses—including Engels the Artist, Nicolás de Jesús, Rosalie D. Gagné, and Luis Perelman, for each of whom he created a first retrospective exhibition accompanied by a scholarly publication. Giasson has also developed thematic and multidisciplinary exhibitions, including Pier Paolo Pasolini: Subversive Prophet (2020), which explored different aspects of Pasolini’s great creativity, including his poetry, personal drawings and paintings, and cinema.
